advanced/beginner classes...

Alright spinners...there has been some email buzz about starting some new classes:
Advanced-i.e 6-8 week session for registered riders who want to actually do some periodization work.
Beginner-i.e. shorter more basic introduction to spinning classes. Could possibly take place prior-to or immediately following an already scheduled class.

So, we need some feedback and some DIALOG (you can use th comments, another post, or even email to respond) on what we as the instructors would like to see happen.

Joe, and I have talked a bit with Amy about this and would LOVE to see something happen.
For starters we could poll our classes this next week to see who is interested...I also frequently see people outside the door checking out the spin schedule but never actually COME INTO the room...surely there are people who would love it, if they weren't afraid to give a try.

What do you think? I'm all up for working out a priodization schedule between some of us instructors so that we could focus on the training zones (i.e. Energy zones: EEZ, SEZ, IEZ, Race day and recovery).

Let's hear what you think...

I like the idea of an intro class, and it could be a regular thing, at least until we see what participation is like. Maybe weekly, but at different times each week so that we could hit different workout schedules. I don't think it should be a shorter class, but we could spend 5-10 extra minutes in the begining working on fit and bike basics. Then a 30-40 minute class that hits all of the basic moves, with lots of teaching pointers for each one and for spinning in general. It shouldn't necessarily be easier, just simpler. Also, some extra advertising would be good (like a special sign by the main entrance or spin room door 'Learn to spin @ 10am' or something more catchy.

As for the advanced class, I think something like an 8 week class with limited participation would be great. Pre-registration, possibly with limited (instructor-approved?) walk-ins would be key. A pre-set training schedule, maybe week by week would also be important, focusing on the different (heartrate) zones as Collette described. Meeting schedule should be 3-4x per week, with flexibility for some longer classes. But how would we pick the meeting times??? Maybe have a pre-enrollment meeting (or email or use doodle.com) to figure out what's best for the seriously interested. Other ideas??
